Some points to know:
-
As students begin to
apply for financial aid, they should be careful to keep
their personal information safe. Encourage students to
read Save Your Money, Save Your Identity at
www.studentaid.ed.gov/pubs to learn ways to reduce
the risk of identity theft.
College Goal Sunday is
a free program that brings together financial aid
professionals and other volunteers to help families
complete the FAFSA. To find a College Goal Sunday site
near you, visit
www.collegegoalsundayusa.org.
Students should visit
www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the online FAFSA.
Please remind students that if a Web site requests
credit card information or some other form of payment to
complete the FAFSA, then that site is not the official
government (FREE) Web site.

Scholarships |
|
Jason C. Wagner scholarship: a college scholarship that
awarded annually to a graduating high school senior in the State
of Oklahoma that meets our eligibility criteria. We plan to
award at least one scholarship this spring in the amount of
$2500.00 (or more in our discretion) to be used by the recipient
for tuition, costs and fees at an accredited institution for
higher education in the state of Oklahoma during the 2010-2011
school year. We may also elect to award more than one
scholarship in amount(s) that will be determined by the
Foundation in its sole discretion.
For background, my
husband Jason died on December 15, 2005 at the age of 40 years
old, after suffering a sudden heart attack. At the time of his
death, Jason was a partner in the law firm of Collins, Zorn and
Wagner in Oklahoma City and his legal practice was dedicated
primarily to representing the Association of County
Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO), and its member counties
throughout the state. In 2007, the Foundation was established
(organized under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code)
to honor Jason and carry on his legacy.
The Foundation’s
primary focus is to raise funds and award college scholarships
to eligible and qualified students in the state of Oklahoma. The
Foundation will award college scholarships to graduating high
school seniors who reside in counties (such as yours) that Jason
represented in his legal practice. Qualifying and eligible
students will be required to submit an application and essay to
the Foundation. The Foundation will award the scholarships to
students with a financial need and who, in the Foundation’s
view, most exemplify the characteristics Jason had in life:
integrity, intelligence and kindness.
This year’s
Scholarship Application and associated Rules and Regulations can
be pulled from the following website:
http://www.okacco.com/wagner. This is to request that you
please pull and post this information in your high school for
any seniors who might wish to apply for our scholarship. |
