The DHS Jazz Band is an entirely extra curricular ensemble that is included as part of the DHS Band programs. This ensemble meets aft school two days a week in the fall semester and before school 3 times per week in the spring semester. The Jazz band performas at all DHS Band Concerts as well as participating in the SWOSU Jazz band Festival and State Contests. Each year they program a wide variety of music from swing and blues to funck, rock and latin.

Policies

The Duncan High School Jazz Band is a voluntary group that meets outside the regular school day.  Even though this group is voluntary, each member of the band must make a commitment to be at all of the rehearsals and performances.  Anyone that can not make that commitment should not be a member of the jazz band.

Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 7:45 a.m.  This will help accommodate those members that have afternoon obligations.

Practicing the music is a must for a successful band.  In a group such as a jazz band, this becomes even more crucial because of the smaller numbers on each part.  Anyone that can not make this commitment should not be a member of the jazz band.

On rare occasions, if you must miss a rehearsal, contact Mr. Haas before the rehearsal, and he will make the decision whether it will be excused or not.  We will look at each situation and any circumstances separately.  Work will never be an excuse to miss a rehearsal.  Anyone having more than three unexcused absences can be removed from the jazz band.  Two tardies will result in one unexcused absence.
