Dust Buster Awards
Each month, our custodians will choose two classes that helps keep the classrooms, halls, restrooms, cafeteria, gym and the playground the cleanest. We honor these classrooms with a special treat for their hard work! Winners are:
Fine Dining -
Each month students who display good behavior in the lunchroom are treated to a special meal.

Lily Pad Lottery
Each month, each classroom teacher places the names of the students in their class who have not been tardy, absent, or left early for a special prize that is drawn during the Friday afternoon assembly. Lucky Lottery tickets are saved for a semester drawing! Students with no tardies or absences get 2 tickets each month. Students with only one excused absence or only one tardy will get one ticket each month. Students leaving early during the day will get a tardy for the afternoon.

Parent Teacher Organization By-Laws (PTO)

MISSION STATEMENT
It is our mission to bring together as one unit, visions of parents, needs of students, and support of community.
PURPOSES
Enhance clear communication between teacher, parent, and student
Encourage community involvement in the school's social and cultural functions and in classroom activities
Provide a forum for ideas and a means for implementation
Support, encourage, and assist teachers and administrators
Plan, promote, and assist in fund-raising events
Demonstrate and advocate mutual respect, concern, and commitment between parents, teachers, administrators, staff, and students.
ARTICLE I
Rules of Order
These by-laws shall govern the procedures to be followed in all meaning of the Organization.
ARTICLE II
Officers, Executive Board, Elections
Section 1-The elected officers of the organization shall consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and the school secretary/clerk will serve as Treasure. Terms of the office are one year and are limited to two consecutive years in the same office.
Section 2-The Executive Board consists of the elected officers, the principal, a teacher (1 or 2 selected by the teachers), and other appointed committee chairpersons.
Section 3-Election of officers shall be by secret ballot at the spring meeting. Officers for the ensuing year shall be elected by May and will take office the day following the last day of school.
Section 4-Eligibility to vote and hold office is open to all members of the organization.
ARTICLE III
Membership, Dues, Affiliation, Meetings
Section 1-All parents and guardians of children attending Mark Twain Elementary, teachers and administrative staff assigned to the Mark Twain Elementary are entitled to membership, and are eligible to vote and hold office.
Section 2-No dues will be assessed for membership in the Mark Twain Parent Teacher Organization.
Section 3-This parent teacher organization is not affiliated with any state organization, but is an entity of the parents and teachers of this school.
Section 4-Executive Board meetings shall be held monthly during the school year, unless canceled by vote of the Executive Board. A meeting of the Executive Board shall be held at least one week before a general membership meeting. A quorum shall consist of one more than half of the members. Board meetings are open to all PTO members. Requests for items to be placed on the agenda shall be submitted to any board member 24 hours prior to the board meeting.
Section 5-Gneral membership meetings shall be held a minimum of three times per year. Each meeting shall be announced to the general membership one week prior to said meeting. A quorum shall be the number of members present plus at least three members of the board.
ARTICLE IV
Duties of Office
Section 1-The President shall call and preside at Executive Board meetings and PTO general meetings; shall call special meetings; shall be an ad-hoc member of all committees; shall present contract and legal papers to the executive board for approval; shall consult with the principal as to school needs.
Section 2-The Vice-President shall act, as aide to the President and in the absence of the president, shall perform the duties of the President.
Section 3-The Secretary shall keep an accurate record of all meetings of the general membership of the Organization and of the Executive Committee; shall maintain files and records of the Organization and provide such correspondence as required by the Organization and at the direction of the President; shall file a copy of all notes and correspondence in the PTO book in the closet in the teacher's workroom.
Section 4-The Treasurer of the Organization will be the school secretary and she will receipt and deposit funds; shall keep records of expenditures; shall present reports of the financial condition of the Organization at Executive Board meetings and general membership meetings; approve the disbursement of funds as allocated in the budget or as authorized by the Executive Committee and/or the general membership of the Organization; shall issue a financial statement at the last PTO meeting of the school year.
ARTICLE V
Committees
All committees will be appointed by the President with the approval of the Executive Committee, as needed to carry out the business of the Organization. Chairperson of the various committees shall be given a committee charge for the year by the President, detailing their duties and responsibilities. Chairperson shall make reports to the Executive Committee. The Mark Twain Parents Teacher Organization shall have these committees:
Publicity Chairperson shall be responsible for publicizing PTO meetings and events, and shall work with committee chairperson if publicity is needed for their projects.
Redemption Chairperson shall collect redeemable items such as Campbell's Labels For Education labels, Box Top for Education, Homeland One Cards, and any others that may be applicable.
Homeroom Parent Chairperson shall be responsible for finding a homeroom parent for each class. The chairperson will oversee all problems the homeroom parent may have.
Other Committees shall be appointed as needed.
ARTICLE VI
Expenditure of Funds
With a majority vote, the Executive Committee may authorize any expenditure to a maximum of $500. Any expenditure over this amount may be recommended to the general membership by the Executive Committee and must be approved by the vote of the general membership of the Organization. All expenditures must be approved by the Principal and Superintendent.
ARTICLE VII
Amendments
Proposed amendments to the By-Laws shall be presented in writing to the Executive Board. After endorsement by the Executive Board, copies shall be distributed to the general membership for endorsement. A majority vote of those in attendance will be required for approval. Voting will be by show of hands.
