Will Rogers Pre-Kindergarten Procedures
For Parents and Students
Dear Parents:
We would like to thank you for being a part of your child’s education. The faculty and staff are excited to have your child at the Pre-K Center. We also would like to encourage you to be involved as a volunteer or in any other way which supports your child during their educational years.
The following document includes general information and procedures for the Pre-K Center. We feel communication is a very vital and important component for a successful learning experience. We hope this information helps you to better assist your child and their needs. We ask for and appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
Respectfully,
Mona Evans, Principal
& Will Rogers Faculty and Staff
Arrival times: PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS
Public school students eating breakfast may arrive at 7:30. Students will leave the gym at 7:55 to go to their classroom. All public school students gather in the gym. Students eating breakfastwill go through the breakfast line. All other public school students will need to sit on the carpet for their class. Each teacher’s name is listed a carpet.
HEAD START STUDENTS
Delta Head Start and Chickasaw Nation Head Start students must be signed in through the classroom. Head Start students may arrive when the doors open at 7:30. Parents will sign their child in every morning in the classroom. Breakfast will be served promptly at 8:00.
Dismissal Times: PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS
Public school classes will dismiss at 2:45. At the time of dismissal, MRS. BLALOCK, MRS. LEE & MRS. VAUGHN and their assistants will walk their students outside and the students will sit on the benches in their assigned area. Each student will then be released to their parent. We ask parents to assist with this process by keeping each reserved section of the benches vacant for our students.
MRS. JUNG and MRS. LOAFMAN will dismiss their students from the classroom, so parents will need to go to the classroom daily to pick-up their child.
HEAD START STUDENTS
Delta Head Start and Chickasaw Nation Head Start students must be signed out through the classroom. Dismissal time for both Head Start programs is 3:00.
Parking:
Designated parking for parents is located on the west side of Thirteenth Street for parallel and angular parking. This parking area extends north to the intersection of Thirteenth Street and Elk Avenue and is visually marked as such. Please note the specified area for the Chickasaw Nation Head Start bus. It is necessary to leave the space directly north of the bus parking vacant in the morning and afternoon. The space reserved for the bus ensures the safety of the students who are riding the bus.
There is NO PARKING directly in front of the school and the designated CROSS WALK area. To help alleviate traffic congestion and to ensure safety, no one should park on the east side of Thirteenth Street. Additional parking is available south and east of the stop sign located on the corner of Thirteenth Street and Jones Avenue.
The CIRCLE DRIVE is for DAY CARE VEHICLES ONLY. Day care providers pick up multiple children and this policy ensures safety for the children.
The south parking lot is reserved for faculty and staff members only.
Attendance:
Attendance in school is an important part of your child’s education. We have a district-wide policy and procedure for taking and tracking attendance.
For the Pre-K Center, students who arrive sixty minutes late for school need to check in at the office. A sign-in sheet is available for parents to sign so your child may be admitted to class. Any student who arrives sixty minutes after school has started will need a pass to be admitted to class. If a student arrives sixty minutes after class has started or leaves sixty minutes before class dismisses, the will be counted absent for the day.
A student will be counted tardy if they arrive after school has started. Tardiness will be recorded and more than 5 occurrences will affect perfect attendance.
Visitor’s Policy:
Anyone entering the building will need to go directly to the office and sign in. At that time they will be issued a VISITOR’S BADGE to wear while they are in the building. For example, if a parent is volunteering for the day or comes to their child’s class to read, they will need to sign in at the office and wear a visitor’s badge while they are in the building. The only exception to this policy will be if a parent is dropping off or picking up their child at the regular designated times or attending a school-wide function like a class party.
Meal Prices:
The child nutrition program offers daily breakfast and lunch to our students. The prices for meals are as follows:
Breakfast Full-$1.25/Reduced-30 cents/Free
Lunch Full-$1.75/Reduced-40 cents/Free
If you have any questions, you may contact the Child Nutrition Office at 255-2492 or speak with the child nutrition personnel in the cafeteria.
Juice/Milk/Water Break:
We have a daily juice/milk/water break. Cost for juice/milk is 40 cents. Parents may choose to pay in advance. WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY CHARGES. Water is also offered daily to our students as part of our refreshment choices. We ask that no child have any credit amount above ten dollars. We must have a zero balance at the end of the school year so parents will receive a letter in the spring about payment policy changes. Refreshments at break time for students who attend Delta Head Start and Chickasaw Head Start are included as part of the Head Start program.
Contact Information:
To ensure safety, we must have up-to-date information for contacting parents and emergency contact resources. If you will be utilizing day care providers that information is also necessary. Your child's classroom teacher will also request information if you use a daycare facility to transport your child.
School Safety
Safety is a high priority at all Duncan Schools. Every classroom is equipped with safety information that outlines procedures for various emergency events. We practice those procedures from time to time. They include such things as fire & tornado drills, and school lockdown.
You can help our safety efforts by making sure that you follow the procedures that are designed to promote a safe school. That includes making sure that you always enter the main building entrance, check in at the office and obtain a visitor’s badge.
Guns and weapons are not allowed on school property.
Please instruct grandparents, sitters, etc. about our procedures so they can follow them when they visit.
Additional information for parents is provided in the Duncan Public School Elementary Handbook. You can access a copy online on the DPS website under policy. A copy of the handbook is also sent home with each child at the beginning of the school year.
